How to Choose the Right Style of Window Based on the Homeowner’s Needs

Posted by: Contractor Express

Windows come in different styles and types, each of which has its own features, advantages, and disadvantages. As a contractor, it’s important that you understand the needs of your clients and the style of homes they own in order to choose the right windows. Keep in mind that windows in Long Island will only be efficient if you choose the proper type for the purpose at hand.

Additional Sunlight

If you’re installing a window in a room where sunlight is needed, a fixed window can be the appropriate choice. Fixed windows cannot be opened and only function to let natural light in or provide a view. This type is best in places where the homeowner doesn’t need to open the windows but wishes to invite the beauty of the outdoors inside. Also, fixed windows are secure and energy efficient as long as the seal is tight. They provide strong protection from harsh elements.

Energy Efficiency

Casement windows are known for their energy benefits. They seal tight when closed, preventing air from leaking through, which saves on energy bills. They also let in natural air by cranking them wide open. They open outwards, allowing you to crank it as far as you can. Make sure you install them in areas where there are no obstructions outside to deter them from being fully opened. They’re also recommended to be placed alongside a bay window.

Natural Air

When it comes to letting in natural air, hung windows are a good option. There are two types of hung windows: single-hung and double-hung. Single-hung windows allow you to move the bottom sash upward while the upper sash remains stationery. Double-hung windows let you move both sashes. Because of these movements, homeowners can let the breeze in while controlling the amount of space they want to open. The sashes of hung windows also move upwards, saving space because they don’t require additional room to open fully.

These are only some of the types of windows from which to choose. When choosing building materials in Long Island their purpose should always be considered, as should the type of home and the space it offers. This way, your clients will be able to maximize the benefits of a particular window style.
